James (Jim) A. Bovard, age 90, left this life on February 11, 2020 in Ewa Beach, Hawaii where he and his wife Patricia have resided for the past 8 years. James was born in Mercer Township, Pennsylvania on February 27, 1929 to Donald W, and Lucille M. (nee Albert) Bovard. Raised in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, he received his Chemical Engineering Degree from Carnegie Mellon University and was employed in the food industry for all his career including as The Director of Engineering at Frenchs and Seneca Foods. His career led him and his family to live in several parts of the U.S., including Massachusetts, Idaho, Illinois, California and nearly 30 years in the Rochester New York area.
James was a profoundly spiritual person always finding strength in his faith, harmony in nature and a soul-renewing tranquility in the outdoors. He shared activities with his family such as camping, hiking, sailing, skiing, rock hunting and swimming. He enjoyed gardening, painting, carpentry and had a sincere love of all types of music.
James is survived by his beloved Spouse of 67 years, Patricia L Toner Bovard formerly of Butler, Pennsylvania, a loving family of 6 children: Jeannine C. Logan (NY), J. David (Wilaiwan) Bovard (Thailand), Jonathan K. Bovard (NY), Yvonne R. Peters (HI), D. Mariette (William) Rowles (SC), and Michael P. Bovard (NY). There are also 7 Grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his devoted brother William A. (JoEllen) Bovard. He was predeceased by his sister Judith A. Bovard Hommey in 2013 and his parents Donald W. Bovard and Lucille Albert Bovard Eckstein.
A Memorial service will be held at the Franciscan Vistas Ewa on March 12, 2020 at 6:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Mass & reception is being planned for the Rochester area family and friends.
