Joann Reiko Morine Skudlarick

73, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 6, 2020 while surrounded by her family and pets.

She was born on May 6, 1946 to George N. and Eleanor Y. Morine in Honolulu. A 1964 graduate of Farrington High School. She earned her B.A. at Chaminade University in 1990 and M.A.from UH Manoa in 2001 in Educational Technology. She retired from Maryknoll Schools in 2014. She was most recently a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa – Zeta Chapter for Women Educators.

Joann danced hula with Maiki Aiu Lake; traveled extensively abroad; and lived in various places including San Francisco and New York City. She was a supporter of the Hawaiian Humane Society, PBS and the Ka Iwi Coast Preservation. She loved working with plants, feeding wild birds, and was attuned to nature. At the end of the day, she loved having a glass of wine. Joann was intelligent, focused and kind.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, James; her children, daughter Mari and son Keo; brothers Miles Morine and Andrew Morine; grandson Kameha’i; daughter-in-law Brittney; son-in-law Jonathan Ching; and sister-in-law Shirley Morine.

Her celebration of life will be held at the Oahu Club in Hawaii Kai on Monday, January 20 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
