Russell Jack Grisham was known by his family as “Rusty” growing up in Southern California. Russell was born on September 11, 1946 in Los Angeles, CA and died of a heart attack on July 29, 2020 at the Queen’s Medical Center, Honolulu, HI.
Russell was a unique individual. He loved the beach and surfing as a teen. He joined the Navy when he was 17 years old and was stationed in Hawaii. His Navel service took him to Vietnam. When he left the Navy, he returned to California and lived in Sausalito on a houseboat for a number of years. Remembering the easy way of life in Hawaii and the Aloha spirit he returned to Hawaii when he was about 30 years old. He remained in Hawaii the rest of his life. Russell had lots of stories regarding his interesting life. He was a kind, generous, loving spirit and well-liked by all who knew him.
Russell had an entrepreneurial spirit and had a number of ventures including a successful ATM business in Hawaii for a number of years. During his retirement years he enjoyed driving for Uber and thought of himself as an ambassador for Hawaii to the many visitors he picked up arriving from all over the world.
Russell is survived by his son, Nimai Russell Grisham (Honolulu HI), and sister, Bonnie Williams and spouse Tom Williams (Arlington, Texas).
Russell was predeceased by his mother, Rita Grisham (Fort Worth TX) and his father, Jack Grisham (Denton TX).
Due to CoVid a Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date in Hawaii. Russell was a long time Devotee of Lord Krishna and requested his ashes be dispersed by a close friend in Vrindavan, India, into the Yamuna River.
