Obituary for Shirley Ann Wetzel

Shirley Ann Wetzel
Shirley was born in Honolulu on September 14, 1928 to US Federal Judge C. Nils Tavares and Unita (Gillette) Tavares. She grew up in Manoa Valley and attended Punahou School during WWII. After graduating from the University of Michigan, she returned to Hawaii where she taught elementary school, first in Honolulu and later in Lahaina. Shirley loved hosting parties, raising large dogs, traveling the world, and living life to its fullest. Shirley passed away peacefully in her home on November 8th holding her son's hand. She is predeceased by her life partner Edward "Red" Schaefer, and is survived by her son, Dr. Winters Reef Hardy, daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Hardy, and her twin granddaughters, Noelle and Grace. A memorial service will be held on March 8th at the Outrigger Canoe Club. RSVP required at swetzels.life.party@gmail.com
