Obituary

Tanya Uilani Keala was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 7, 1959 to Hiram and Malani Naumu. She is the youngest of 3 siblings, Hiram Jr and Jamie (Lum). She grew up in Pearl City and graduated from Pearl City High School in 1977. After high school she attended BYU-Hawaii where she met the love of her life, David Kaluna Keala. They were married on August 12, 1978 in the courtyard of the Honolulu tabernacle. They were later sealed together for time and all eternity with their daughter Lei (Burk) in the Laie, Hawaii Temple on September 15, 1979. Their family continued to grow with the additions of Kehau (Lauano), Lani (Ormsby) and Ui (Tovo). They both attended BYU-Hawaii until David graduated in 1987 at which point they moved their young family to Utah. They lived in Orem, Utah for 13 years while David worked at BYU in Provo until 2000 when they moved their family back to Laie, Hawaii where they have resided for the past 20 years. Throughout her life Tanya served her Savior in a variety of callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From working with children in Primary, to Relief Society President where she helped care for the spiritual and temporal needs of those within her ward, to the Young Women's Program where she spent the majority of her time helping the youth gain a greater love for their Savior and the gospel. Tanya always kept people on their toes with her jokes and tricks. She enjoyed playing volleyball, painting, water fights, crafting, her balloon business, girls camps and scrapbooking. Besides her family, faith and the temple, Tanya had a great love for all things Disney. Disneyland was the only other place that she called "home." She often said it was her "fountain of youth" and she and David would run away there often and send their kids pictures of themselves with Mickey and Minnie. Tanya, age 60, passed away in her home in Laie, Hawaii on Monday, April 6, 2020 surrounded by her family after battling with cancer for 13 years. She is survived by her husband, David Keala, their four daughters Lei (Todd Burk), Kehau (Lauano), Lani (Sheldon Ormsby) and Ui (Misiona Tovo) and their 14 grandchildren. Due to Covid-19 we are unable to have a public viewing or funeral service. We will have a private viewing of immediate family that will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at 3:00pm. The viewing will be recorded, please contact the family and a link will be provided for the viewing. Funeral arrangements were made through the Ballard Family Moanalua Mortuary in Honolulu, Hawaii. The family would like to share their heartfelt appreciation and love for all that has been done for their sweetheart, mother and tutulady. Mahalo, The Keala Ohana
